Sanctuary Queer Arts is committed to supporting artists at all stages of development. We engage experienced performing arts professionals, and we are developing a national queer young company. Bridging the gap between these levels of expertise is the Newer Artists Development Programme, for LGBTQIA+ identifying live performance makers of many disciplines.
Recognising there is little-to-no queer artistic development programmes in Scotland, we felt it was important to implement a scheme that allowed newer artists [not “emerging” artists – that term generally implies an age restriction] to grow their artistry, develop their practice, benefit from one-to-one bespoke mentorship and develop new performances... aiming to facilitate small-scale, tour ready productions.
In 2020 two artists joined the prorgramme mentored by Drew Taylor-Wilson. In May 2021 both artists underwent script development having digitally developed a first draft.
Theo Seddon's production DAWN OF MAN was filmed in July and in October received its digital world premiere as part of our Anniversary Showcase.

I’m a 23 year old comedian, performer and writer. I’m originally from South Yorkshire but grew up mainly in Dubai. I’m also a transgender man and the work I usually create revolves around my experiences in transitioning and becoming a man. I am deeply interested in transgender masculinity and the experiences of transgender men in society, and I make work that aims to use comedy to communicate transgender perspectives in an accessible way.
