1. Who are you?

I’m Hannah, an emerging queer writer and theatremaker from Glasgow. I write a lot about Scottishness, identity, and queerness, myself being a case study on all three. I love all things high drama, low drama, or really anything that can be done with a little pizzazz.

I’m also a big musical theatre person, which I’m sure is entirely unsurprising given all of the above information.

2. How did you get here?

I’ve been involved in any and all parts of theatre I could be involved in since I was wee, starting out performing in youth theatre and am dram, but really started taking it a bit more seriously upon moving to Edinburgh (sorry Glasgow) for my undergrad degree. Eventually, I stayed on to complete an MSc in Playwriting from the University of Edinburgh, receiving the William Hunter Sharpe Memorial Scholarship. During this time I also took part in courses like Traverse Young Writers, and enjoyed my favourite hobby of putting on silly Fringe musicals. Since then, I’ve been entering the professional theatre realm and am so excited to be working with Sanctuary for my first commission.

I was also cursed by an ancient wizard in a well.

3. What does the concept of Sanctuary mean to you?

Not only safety, but a bit of respite too; a space you are not only protected but also replenished.

4. What does your Sanctuary look like?

Community, especially one that can organise themselves for collective good. A lovely wee cup of tea in a lovely big mug. About 20 candles. Grass on your clothes from a day lying in the park with friends. Hairspray (2007)
