Meet Chelsea

Who are you?

I am Chelsea Grace (She/Her). I am a working class, bi -sexual, happy go lucky highlander now living in Glasgow. I am an actor, activist, writer, theatre maker and consumer of far too much veggie katsu curry.

How did you get here?

I was cast with the credible role of a sausage vendor in my primary schools production of "The Pied Piper" which put me on the path to performing arts. At 16 I moved to Glasgow to do a HND in acting and performance but after graduating, my inner sabateour was a nasty lil thing that convinced me I needed a "proper" job instead. Shock, I hated it. After a few years I gained confidence and started working on short films. I then applied for the Scottish Youth Theatre's National Ensemble. I was accepted and welcomed into a place where I could create art with likeminded people. It showed me that I enjoyed writing as well as acting. Everyone can have varied skills and interests. One person can be so many things. After having such a positive experience, I knew I have to apply for the sanctuary queer arts young company.

What does the concept of sanctuary mean to you?

To me sanctuary is the freedom to feel comfortable. That ability to express and be, just as you are. Having no judgement held against you.
A safe place where people feel they can be most themselves.

What does your sanctuary look like?

My sanctuary is the start of a new day, it's bright and sun floods in the windows. It's warm. I have my favourite music playing and a good cup of hot coffee. I'm painting, writing or reading a script.
