Meet Aude
Who are you?
I am Aude. I am 22. I grew up in Eaubonne, France and am currently studying and making theatre in Edinburgh. I am Queer and a proud plant mum. I love being surrounded by creative people, wearing bright colours and learning about history. I am a cat lover and enjoy making and reading poetry about mental health, sexuality and human relationships (especially friendship).
How did you get here?
I got here by always listening to my passion for theatre and creating stories that resonate with people and provoke change.
For as long as I can remember, I have been able to best express myself through performance whether that is theatre, singing or dancing. I am lucky enough to have been able to perform and direct shows with the university drama societies both at UCL and Edinburgh University and have taken an original play to the Fringe in 2019. “Purple” is a play I co-directed with its writer Ella Fidler, focusing on Asexuality in order to open a discussion on a sexuality often pushed to the side and misunderstood.
I have also just completed the summer take in course with the National Youth Theatre which was an incredible experience as I am very passionate about ensemble work and building a company through devising. This experience led me to find out about Sanctuary Queer Arts and its first young company which I am so excited to be a part of!
What does the concept of sanctuary mean to you?
To me a sanctuary is a sacred place where one can feel calm, most happy and protected. This word makes me feel peaceful. It is also a place of worship in which anyone should feel free to say or think what they truly feel without any judgement.
What does your sanctuary look like?
It is full of bright colours, plants, has wooden floors and a few cats. Books. Texture: fluffy rugs, wood, grass, soil, water. A sequoia tree and a swing. Something warm cooking leaving a nice smell in the air. Loved ones laughing. Hugs. Tea.
